Compost with Confidence – Saturday February 13th 9:00-11:00am

A 2hr masterclass on the magic of turning your organic waste into the best soil to grow your own organic food. Rod Logan, our market garden coordinator, will guide you through the pros and cons of his proven method of hot (aerobic) compost as well as worm farming. He will demystify home organics, giving you and your household the skills to close the loop on food waste!

Rod will explain what he has learned from his 20+ years of market gardening. You will then;

  • Learn the ins and outs of worm farming (let worms do the work!)
  • Learn all about compost ground systems (aerobic compost)
  • Meet other aspiring home composters and form a supportive community
  • If there’s time, explore the Green Connect Farm site to see how composting works on a large scale

Please read the Terms and Conditions prior to booking your tickets.

Compost with Confidence

Saturday February 13th, 2021

If you’d like to see your plants flourishing in your very own, home-made compost, then this workshop is for you! Compost is often called ‘black gold’ for its ability to replenish nutrients in the garden, retain precious moisture, prevent erosion, loosen clay and compacted soil to improve drainage and suppress unwanted weeds. The 2-hour workshop will begin with the assurance that closing the loop with your organic waste can be small scale and low effort. You don’t have to live on a farm to become a compost pioneer! By the end of this workshop, you will be able to select the appropriate type of composting system for your needs, understand the basics of how and why this system works and apply the finished results to your plants.

What to bring

  • Gardening gloves – we have some spare but they may not be your size

  • Sun hat and sunscreen
  • Water to drink
  • Pen/pencil and notebook
  • Lots of questions about organics!

  • 2hrs face to face workshop with Rod Logan
  • Course notes to take home with you

Your teacher: Rod Logan

Rod Logan knows a thing or two about working with the land. In the mid 90s and feeling inspired after reading “The New Organic Grower” (Elliott Coleman), Rod started growing his own food on his 90-acre country property near Bega. For the next 10 years, his market garden became a major supplier to the region supplying wholefoods retailers. In 2015, he relocated to the Illlawarra and joined Dapto Community Farm to supply ‘tiny vegetables’ to local restaurants, Caveau and Ruby’s Mount Kembla. Rod’s greatest passion is soil health; specifically, ensuring soil is so good you can grow almost anything in it. He achieves optimal soil health with his tried and tested hot compost method and he looks forward to sharing it with you.
