9am – 12:30pm at Green Connect Farm (Warrawong, NSW)
The Gardening Basics workshop will help you to match what you want to eat with what you want to grow by giving you the confidence to get started in your garden growing easy, failsafe veggies, herbs and fruit trees. If you’d like to get your edible up and running quickly, then this is the workshop for you. You will walk away with the skills to turn your backyard into a dream edible garden.
This workshop is hand-on and will feature a tour of Green Connect’s extensive market gardens where you will see how (in just 8 years) we have turned 11 acres of disused land into an urban, edible oasis. We grow and fill veg boxes that feed over 170 households in the Illawarra every week – we know a thing or two and we’d love to share these with you.
Your course fee includes:
- 3.5hrs of face-to-face teaching at the Green Connect Farm, Warrawong NSW.
- Catered morning tea. Let us know your dietary requirements.
Your teacher: Jacqui Besgrove
Jacqui Besgrove is passionate about compost and designing permaculture systems to rewild suburbia, helping people to become active producers rather than passive consumers. When she’s not knee deep in compost and tending to her backyard chickens, she is part of the team who run award-winning ‘Permablitz the Gong
’, transforming suburban backyards into edible oases. Jacqui has over 10 years experience teaching permaculture and sustainable living, a permaculture design certificate and has a Master of Environmental Management.

Why is Green Connect offering studies in permaculture?
Well, because we are proud of the work we have done to turn 11 aces of disused land into a thriving permaculture farm abundant with vegetables, fruit, herbs and animals (goats, pigs, sheep and chickens). And because we’re so proud of it, we want to share it with you. People often ask us what we do, how we do it and why it’s such a success story for the Illawarra. Rest assured, as a not for profit, your ticket price goes directly to our farm. Every purchase helps and supports the work that we do.
