Fair Food

We produce fair food: food that is good for the people who grow it, good for the people who eat it and good for the planet. A big part of this is paying fair wages to our staff, providing the care that our animals deserve, and not cutting corners when it comes to producing food without synthetic chemicals, which requires a lot of hard work. Like most businesses, the costs associated with doing these things increase every year.

Although we really needed to raise our veg box prices last year to account for increasing costs, we chose not to due to the instability that the first wave of the pandemic was causing. But unfortunately, we can’t bear these costs forever, and so we will be implementing a small price increase on the 20th of October.

The new prices are detailed in the grid. Please note that the regular and large size boxes will not increase in cost quite as much as the other boxes, because we will stop including a herb in these boxes each week. This is based on customer feedback that it is often the herbs, such as rosemary, snow pea tips, coriander or sweet potato leaves, that get left unloved in the bottom of the fridge.

As I’ve mentioned, I will be leaving Green Connect at the end of the month, and I wanted to communicate this to our beloved customers before I go rather than throwing our new manager (who we are currently recruiting for) straight in the deep end. I also wanted to give customers as much notice as possible.

Thank you for working with us to continue to build something truly awesome in the Illawarra. It is only with your understanding and continued support that we will succeed in making our farm a self-sustaining fair food enterprise that does right by people and the planet.

Enjoy,

Cal Champagne
Green Connect Farm Manager

Did you know?

Cabbage: Cousin to broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, cabbage provides a wide variety of health benefits. High in vitamin C, dietary fibre, and folate, this veg is also low in calories and very versatile in the kitchen. You can shred cabbage to make slaw or just a fresh lettuce alternative for burritos. Cabbage is a great addition to soups and curries and will work with most meals due to its mild flavour.
