Get your hands dirty! 2023 Community Farm Blitzes
Growing food on the sloping terrain of the Green Connect Farm is no easy task. But when a community of passionate people come together to pitch in, it makes for a fun and rewarding day!
In 2023, we’re excited to be hosting regular Community Farm Blitzes. Starting on Saturday 14 January from 9am-12pm, and running bi-monthly thereafter, participants will work alongside our farm team on whatever project is the focus of the day.
Everyone is welcome! With a range of easy to challenging tasks, including weeding, digging, demolishing, chopping, or a host of other farm jobs, there will be something for everyone to do. And if you’d like to bring the kids along, they can either join in on nature play activities taking place in the children’s garden or they can work alongside you.
So come along, invite your friends, get your hands dirty, learn a little more about how we grow food, and help us combat some of the challenges of urban farming. At the end of the morning, we’ll fire up the BBQ. BYO something to toss on and we’ll provide salads, bread, tea & coffee.
We hope you can join us! Farm Blitz days will take place in 2023 on 14 Jan, 11 March, 13 May, 8 July, 9 Sept, and 11 Nov. Register in advance (if you can) at [email protected] or just rock up on the day.
Enjoy!

Feature Veg: Silverbeet
Silverbeet, along with Rainbow Chard, is a variety of swiss chard, and is a multi-coloured leafy relative of beetroot. It boasts many health benefits and is packed with heaps of nutritious vitamins and minerals. Store it wrapped loosely in a reused plastic bag in your veggie crisper to help it stay fresh for longer. Sauteed the leaves and stems with a bit of salt for an easy side dish, or add them to a huge range of meals, including stir fries, pastas, soups or smoothies. Enjoy!
