What to Expect in your Veg Box this Spring
Spring is in the air, with glorious wattle dotting yellow around the farm. The spring season usually gives us the best of crops planted in winter with broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, beetroot, and leafy greens at their best. We’re also hoping the warmer weather provides a ‘hurry up’ for crops like kohlrabi that have been slow to this winter.
Seasonal Flowering Veg
Broccoli, cauliflower, green cabbage, snow peas, green beans, broad beans, zucchini (grey and blackjack), cucumber, eggplant, capsicum
Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and pumpkin will continue into spring. We’ve also planted broccolini, though it is enthusiastically bolting to flower before being suitable for harvest! Snow peas and green beans will feature later in the season, and we may get some early harvests of some of our summer favourites, such as zucchini, cucumber, eggplant, and capsicum.
Leafy Greens
Silverbeet, rainbow chard, lettuce (oak & cos), kale (curly leaf), bok choy, joi choi, mizuna, fennel, amaranth
Our silverbeet and rainbow chard are looking amazing, along with oak and cos lettuces and curly leaf kale. We have further plantings of bok choy, joi choi, rocket, mizuna, and fennel planned and there will also be a couple of amaranth leaf harvests to look forward to.
Roots & Alliums
Carrot, beetroot, leek, spring onion, kohlrabi, turnip, radish, sweet potato, potato, onion
Carrot, beetroot, leek, and spring onion will continue to shine in our spring veg boxes. We should get more of winter favourites kohlrabi, turnip, and radish in the next couple of months. We’ll keep sourcing organic potatoes and onions as box staples too.
Herbs
Basil, parsley, dill, parella, rosemary, bay leaf, mint, lime leaf, water celery, chilli, coriander, rosemary
As usual, herbs will supplement your veg boxes this spring. You’ll see more customer favourites like coriander, parsley, and basil and we’re also looking forward to more water celery, which is still thriving at the farm.
Fruit
Apple, pear, banana, orange, mandarin, lemon, kiwifruit, passionfruit, tamarillo, guava, babaco, avocado
Sourced from other certified organic suppliers, bananas and apples will continue to feature, with pear, citrus and kiwifruit rotated in as well. We are also looking forward to packing as much of fruit from our own trees as we can! In spring, you can expect to see mulberries, yellow cherry guavas, tamarillos, babacos, passionfruit, lemons and avocados.
