We grow a variety of crops at our urban farm in Warrawong NSW and we would like to share with you some information on our produce.
Some items packed in your veg box may not be familiar to you, or you may not know exactly how to best use them in a meal. So we have put together a collection of recipes to help you best enjoy the flavour and goodness of the fruit and vegetables grown on our farm.
Beetroot
Many people have strong feelings about beetroot. But love them or hate them, there are so many good reasons to it! With an incredible variety of delicious beetroot dishes, there is sure to be an option everyone can fall in love with.
Bok Choy
Bok Choy, also known as Pak Choi, is a staple ingredient in Asian cooking. It is a surprisingly veratile vegetable, able to be prepared in many ways and added to a range of dishes.
Cabbage
Often underappreciated, cabbage is one of the most versatile vegetables out there. When cooked well, it can shine as the star ingredient in a dish or be used to create a delicious side-dish.
Cauliflower
Cauliflower is a culinary shapeshifter. It can be prepared in an impressive number of ways and it's neutral, slightly nutty flavour absorbs other flavours easily, making it an excellent side or feature veg in many different styles of meals.
Eggplant
The versatility of eggplants can't be understated. Depending on how they are cooked, their spongy and absobant flesh can be firm and meaty, soft and silky, or even crunchy. Their naturally mild flavour readily absorbs the flavours from sauces or other foods it is cooked with.
Fennel
Fennel is easily recognisable by its large white bulb, long green stalks, feathery leaves, and aromatic aniseed flavour. Although it is often underrated and underappreciated, there is so much you can do with this delicious and versatile vegetable!
Kale
Kale is a widely proclaimed 'super food' and a poster-child for healthy eating. It is also incredibly versatile in the kitchen!
Kohlrabi
A staple vegetable in Germany and India, kohlrabi is delicious, healthy and easy to cook! It's versatility means you can enjoy it prepared in a huge variety of meals.
Leek
Don’t underestimate the humble leek. This delicious vegetable has a mild, somewhat sweet, and onion-y flavour and adds depth to a huge range of meals as an onion alternative. It can also shine as a star ingredient.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is arguably one of the most popular and versatile vegetables out there. With many varieties to choose from, their variable sweet and nutty flavour lends itself to a huge range of sweet and savoury dishes.
Swiss Chard
Silverbeet and Rainbow Chard are varieties of Swiss Chard. This humble vegetable is nutrient-rich and delicious when eaten on its own or as an ingredient in a large diversity of dishes.
Zucchini
Zucchinis are a variety of summer squash and are a joy to prepare and eat! Their mild flavour pairs well with a huge range of different dishes, making them a versatile and popular summer vegetable.
